About Langley

Langley British Columbia suburban community with mountain views The Township of Langley is a district municipality immediately east of the City of Surrey in southwestern British Columbia, spanning 316 square kilometres from the Fraser River south to the Canada-United States border. Located in the eastern part of Metro Vancouver, it combines fast-growing suburban communities with a distinctive agricultural heritage. The Township and the adjacent City of Langley are politically separate entities, though both are commonly referred to as Langley. Incorporated on April 26, 1873, Langley remained predominantly rural for much of its history. Today it is one of Metro Vancouver's fastest-growing municipalities. The majority of land remains within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), generating over $300 million annually in farm revenue. The equine industry alone is valued at over $60 million annually, earning the Township the title of Horse Capital of BC. Fort Langley, on the banks of the Fraser River, holds the title of Birthplace of British Columbia, where Governor James Douglas proclaimed the Colony of British Columbia in 1858. Fort Langley National Historic Site draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. No franchises are permitted within the village to preserve its heritage character.
