Beasley, Hamilton

Beasley is one of Hamilton's original four neighbourhoods, named after Richard Beasley, a soldier, political figure, and early settler who was granted land by the Crown in 1799. Situated in the downtown core, the neighbourhood is bounded roughly by James Street to the west, Wellington Street to the east, King Street to the south, and the rail corridor to the north. Beasley served as Hamilton's first industrial area through the 19th and 20th centuries, and its surviving worker housing and factory buildings reflect that heritage. Today, Beasley is a culturally diverse neighbourhood with residents tracing roots to over 80 different ethnic backgrounds, including many first- and second-generation immigrants.
