About Rutherford
Rutherford is a residential neighbourhood in south Edmonton, located west of Calgary Trail (Gateway Boulevard) and south of Blackmud Creek. Named after Alexander Cameron Rutherford, Alberta's first premier, the neighbourhood was developed primarily between 2000 and 2015. It sits adjacent to the Century Park transit centre, which makes it one of the few newer suburban communities with direct LRT access. The neighbourhood is bounded by 127 Street to the west and the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the south. Rutherford's layout follows a modified grid pattern with crescents and cul-de-sacs branching off collector roads. The Blackmud Creek ravine along the northern edge provides a natural buffer and green corridor that connects to the city's broader trail system. Nearby Amenities
The Blackmud Creek ravine provides Rutherford's primary natural amenity, with multi-use trails winding through mature forest and connecting to the Whitemud Ravine nature reserve. The neighbourhood park includes playgrounds, open sports fields, and a community league building. Rutherford Pond, a constructed stormwater feature, is ringed by a walking path and benches. For shopping and services, Heritage Valley Town Centre on Ellerslie Road offers major retailers, grocery stores, medical clinics, and restaurants. The Century Park area provides additional commercial options. The Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre is accessible by car or transit for swimming, skating, and fitness programs.
