The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) is a trade association for the jewellery industry in Canada. CJA is the national trade association for the Canadian jewellery industry, and has a strong history dating back to 1918. The Association is the voice of the Canadian jewellery industry, and represents over 1,000 member locations consisting of retailers, suppliers and wholesalers across Canada, and provides leadership in ethics, education and communication. CJA's Chairman for 2014-2015 is Geoffrey Beattie, the owner of Barclay's Fine Custom Jewellers in Victoria, BC. CJA's chairman for 2009-2010 was Alex Barcados, the president and co-owner of C.D. Barcados Co. Ltd. In 2008, the CJA contributed $10,000 to a fund to promote jewellery-related projects which will encourage sustainable economic and social development. The fund was set up by CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, in cooperation with the United Nations. The CJA aims both to support the Canadian jewellery industry, through advocacy and membership benefits, as well as protect consumers, through a mandatory member adherence to a Code of Ethics. Members are also required to guarantee consumers in writing that all diamonds are conflict-free.
