About Beltline

Beltline is Calgary's densest and most urban neighbourhood, stretching south of the downtown core between 10th Avenue SW and 17th Avenue SW. Originally developed in the early 1900s as a residential area near the rail yards, Beltline has evolved into a mixed-use district defined by its high-rise condos, historic low-rises, and a street-level energy that sets it apart from the rest of the city. The neighbourhood takes its name from the old Belt Line Railway that once circled the area. Today, Beltline functions as an extension of the downtown, with a walkable grid of shops, restaurants, and services concentrated along 17th Avenue SW and 4th Street SW. The Central Memorial Park, a designated heritage site, anchors the eastern portion with its mature elm trees and cenotaph. The neighbourhood is home to the Lougheed House National and Provincial Historic Site and sits adjacent to Stampede Park. Nearby Amenities

Central Memorial Park is the neighbourhood's primary green space, featuring a wading pool, playground, and a civic library branch. Haultain Park and Tomkins Park provide smaller pockets of open space. The Beltline Aquatic and Fitness Centre on 12th Avenue offers a pool and gym facilities. Shopping is concentrated along 17th Avenue SW, with a mix of independent boutiques, restaurants, and chain retailers. The CORE Shopping Centre and Chinook Centre are both accessible by transit. Stampede Park, home to the annual Calgary Stampede, sits on the neighbourhood's eastern boundary and hosts year-round events including concerts and trade shows at the BMO Centre.
