About Abbotsford
Abbotsford is British Columbia's fifth-largest city and the largest municipality outside Metro Vancouver. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 153,524 - a 9.2% increase from 2016, one of the fastest growth rates in BC. Located in the Fraser Valley 75 kilometres east of Vancouver, Abbotsford covers 359 square kilometres, bordering the United States to the south, Mission to the north, and Chilliwack to the east. The city was formed in 1995 through amalgamation of the former City of Abbotsford and District of Matsqui.
Known as the agricultural capital of Canada, Abbotsford generates over $1 billion in farm gate revenue annually. The economy is driven by agriculture, manufacturing, aerospace, and education, hosting over 7,000 businesses. UFV enrolls approximately 15,000 students per year, and Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) handles over 1.2 million passengers annually as BC's second-busiest airport. Highway 11 connects to Mission to the north and the Sumas border crossing to the south. Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) at 30440 Liberator Avenue operates daily from 3:00am to 1:00am. WestJet and Flair Airlines serve the airport with parking, ride-share, car rental, and full accessibility accommodations. BC Transit expanded Abbotsford service in September 2021 with 10,000 additional service hours. Key routes serve Highstreet Shopping Centre, UFV campus (Routes 1 and 2), Clearbrook/Huntingdon (Route 3), and Sumas Mountain (Route 7). Free Transit for Children 12 and Under is available.

Abbotsford School District 34 operates 43 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 8 secondary schools serving over 20,000 students.
