About Burke Mountain
Coquitlam is the sixth-largest city in British Columbia, with a population of approximately 174,000 residents and one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Metro Vancouver. Located in the Tri-Cities area east of Burnaby, Coquitlam covers a diverse landscape ranging from the Fraser River waterfront to the forested slopes of Burke Mountain in the northeast. The 2021 Census recorded 148,625 residents, with growth projections reaching 224,000 by 2041. The city is one of 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver and functions as the urban and commercial centre of the Tri-Cities, which also includes Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. The city has a diverse and multicultural character. Significant ethnic communities include Korean residents concentrated in Coquitlam West (informally called K-Town), Chinese communities in North Coquitlam, Westwood Plateau, and Scott Creek, and Iranian communities in Westwood Plateau and North Coquitlam. The median age is 42 years. About 36 percent of residents hold a university degree, with another 16 percent holding a college diploma. The median household income is $92,000, and the median after-tax household income is $82,000. The local economy draws on several sectors: technology, professional services, retail and wholesale trade, manufacturing, public administration, transportation, construction, and tourism. Major employers include the City of Coquitlam with approximately 850 employees, Art in Motion with approximately 750 employees, and Hard Rock Casino with approximately 600 employees. Other significant employers include Coca-Cola, Sony, and the Marine Propulsion division of Rolls-Royce. The City owns QNet, a 90 km fibre network providing low-cost broadband to businesses and residents. The ambitious Fraser Mills waterfront redevelopment by Beedie Living spans 95 acres and, over 25 years, will add 20 towers, 5,500 homes, over 200,000 square feet of commercial space, 9.4 acres of parkland, a 48,000-square-foot aquatic centre, and a future elementary school and daycare, generating employment for approximately 1,700 people.

Pinetree Village and Sunwood Square provide neighbourhood-scale shopping. Hard Rock Casino in Town Centre offers gaming, dining, and live entertainment venues. Recreation facilities are distributed across the city. The Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in northeast Coquitlam includes gyms, ice rinks, and an aquatic centre.
