Liberty Village, Toronto

Liberty Village is a compact neighbourhood in west-central Toronto, bounded by King Street West to the north, Dufferin Street to the west, the Gardiner Expressway to the south, and Strachan Avenue to the east. The area occupies the former industrial lands of the Toronto Central Prison (closed in 1915) and surrounding factories that produced everything from textiles to munitions through the 20th century.

Beginning in the late 1990s, the neighbourhood underwent a rapid transformation from industrial district to residential community as former factory buildings were converted to lofts and vacant lots gave way to condominium developments. The area's population grew from a few hundred residents to over 15,000 between 2000 and 2020, making it one of Toronto's fastest-growing neighbourhoods in that period.

Liberty Village Park is the neighbourhood's central green space, with a playground, open lawn area, and a community dog park. The park hosts seasonal events and a weekly farmer's market during the summer months. The neighbourhood has a high concentration of fitness studios, gyms, and yoga studios.

Retail is distributed along Liberty Street and in the ground floors of condominium buildings. Grocery options include a Metro and smaller specialty food shops. The Exhibition Place grounds and BMO Field (home of Toronto FC) are located immediately to the south, providing access to concerts, sporting events, and the Canadian National Exhibition.
