About Kanata Lakes

Kanata Lakes is a planned residential community in the western suburb of Kanata, developed primarily from the 1990s onward around a series of man-made lakes and natural wetlands. The neighbourhood is located north of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 417) and west of Terry Fox Drive, with Campeau Drive serving as the main access road. The area was developed by Genstar (later Brookfield Homes) with a master plan that incorporated water features, trail systems, and dedicated green space into the suburban layout. The neighbourhood is part of the broader Kanata area, which was a separate city until the 2001 Ottawa amalgamation. Kanata Lakes sits adjacent to the Kanata North technology park, one of Canada's largest technology employment clusters, which has shaped the neighbourhood's demographic toward technology sector professionals and their families. The community has a self-contained feel, with its own commercial areas, schools, and recreation facilities.
